Konverzační hodina Coffee Talk

Dvě učitelky? Vidíte dobře, není to chyba. Sama jsem byla zvědavá, jak taková hodina bude probíhat. Nakonec to bylo tak, že spíše jako učitelka tu byla Annie, říkala nám, co máme dělat, jakou notecard si otevřít a tak dále. Zena nám spíše občas opravovala výslovnost nebo přidávala nějaké komentáře a také psala více do chatu. Nevím, zda se nějak střídají nebo je to takhle na každé hodině, to budu muset ještě zjistit J.

Nejdříve jsme každý obdrželi složku, ve které bylo asi 12 notecards. První, kterou jsme otevřeli, byla plná definicí, které jsme si četli. Upřímně, pro mě to bylo trochu nudné a nic si z toho nepamatuju, ale mohl být jiného názoru. Byly to definice slov: folklore, folktale, Tall Tale, Myth, Legend, Urban Legends, Fable, Fairy Tale.

Potom se ale naše hodina obrátila ve velmi zábavnou a poučnou. Četli jsme si totiž ruské pohádky! Byly to: Masha and the bear a Snowmaiden. Také jsme si četli jednu jazykolamnou povídku - Tall Ted’s Turtles.  Zařadila jsem vždy krátký úryvek z jednotlivých pohádek.

Masha and The Bear

 - A Russian folk tale

Once upon a time there lived an old man and woman who had a granddaughter named Masha. One day some friends of Masha's decided to go to the forest to gather mushrooms and berries and they came to Masha's house to ask her to go with them.

"Please, Grannie and Grampa," said Masha, "do let me go to the forest"

"You may go but see that you keep close to the others and do not lose sight of them or you might get lost", the two old people replied.

Masha and her friends came to the forest and began to hunt for the mushrooms and berries. From bush to bush, from tree to tree went Masha. Before she knew it she had strayed away from her friends.

A Tongue Twister Tale

Tall Ted's TurtlesTall Ted Thompson parked his traveling turtle tank on Tenth Street in front of Tonawanda Town Hall.  Tall Ted's traveling Turtle Aquarium was a big attraction in Tonawanda.  Timmie Torlish and his twin sister Trish ran to push their noses against the tanks windows to take a look at the turtles as Tall Ted walked up Tenth Street to talk to the mayor.

Snowmaiden

 - A Russian folk tale

One day, in the dead of winter, he went into the forest to chop wood and his wife came along to help him. The cold was intense and they were nearly frozen.

"We have no child," said the woodcutter to his wife. "Shall we make a little snow girl to amuse us?"

They began to roll snowballs together, and in a short while they had made a "snegurochka," a snow maiden, so beautiful that no pen could describe her. The old man and the old woman gazed at her and grew even sadder.

"If only the good Lord had sent us a little girl to share our old age!" said the old woman.

Texty byly možná až moc dlouhé a občas jsem se v nich ztrácela. Také by bylo asi dobré si to celé přečíst a pak si to projít znovu, protože tam bylo hodně slovíček, kterým jsem nerozuměla. Ale na druhou stranu jsem se naučila něco nového o ruské kultuře a mohla se zamyslet nad novými příběhy a osudy.

Nová slova:
                -eyes widened = vykulil/a oči
                -pale = bledý
                -rejoice = radovat se
                -viper = zmije
